Drying

Well before the arrival of the Europeans, the First Nations peoples dried fish to preserve it. At the time this photo was taken, several communities like the one at Pointe aux Esquimaux (today known as Havre-Saint-Pierre) sold dried fish to meet the strong demand of external markets.
