Cheddar knife with a wood handle and long metal rods.

Cheddar knife

This artisanal tool was used to make cheddar. The long metal rods were used to stir and cut the curd after the milk coagulated. Since the 1960s, cheddar has been available in blocks and curds cut with mechanical rods like the ones on this knife.
